Artist Statement

“With the right light and sensitive timing, a photograph can convey so much more that words every could,” she said. “It can move us to action, move us to tears, inspire us, and preserve our memories.”

Artist Bio

Rosanne Olson is a photographer, artist, and educator. She received a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Minot State University and a master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon. During her 40-year career Olson has worked in multiple genres of photography—newspaper, magazine editorial, advertising, and fine art. As an educator, she has taught lighting and portraiture for more than 30 years at organizations such as Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle, Santa Fe Workshops, colleges, high schools and conferences. Her commercial clients have included New York City Ballet, Seattle Symphony, and the Seattle Opera.

New 'Sketchbook' exhibit now on display

The Sketchbook project is the world’s largest collection of national and international artist sketchbooks, featuring 28,000 books created by thousands or artists representing approximately 100 countries.

This exhibit at the Ellendale Opera House features over 70 sketchbooks from this collection.

New exhibit by impressionist Amanda Hagen opens May 3

Amanda Hagen is an impressionist fine art painter who creates pieces that "feel like home."

The paintings are primarily acrylic, oil, and mixed media inspired by Christian, Midwestern, agricultural and ranch themes.

The exhibit is open Fridays in May, through Opera lunch, starting at 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

New photography exhibits opens Saturday, Jan. 20

The new photography exhibit by Sabrina Ramey features large format canvas photos.

Sabrina is from Williston, ND and has lived in North Dakota since she was 19.

She loves exploring county backroads and prairie trails with her dogs.

Student art exhibits opens Dec. 13

New 'Art on Leather' exhibit Oct. 6-27

Artist Statement

"Loving to draw all my life there was nothing I wouldn’t try in the art world mediums. I have done oil paint, pencil drawing, and burning on wood.

But I decided to try burning leather to see how that will work, and now I hook on it.  Start buying pieces of leather and stretching them over canvas it works but hard to get it flat and not to bounce.  When I started glue leather on wood, and it work so well with the hard surface.

An exhibit featuring wet plate photography by Shane Balkowitsch in September will feature 38 prints from the collection: Northern Plains Native Americans: A Modern Wet Plate Perspective.

All artwork (including books) are for sale at the opera house gallery with proceeds going to the American Indian College Fund. 

A wet plate demonstration and talk by the artist will be held Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m.

Bees take centerstage at Lobby & Gallery

An art exhibit entitled "Let It Bee" features the work of Mitch Melberg, who operates an apiary in Williston, ND.
